About 10% of Crypto Twitter Subscribers Are Bots

According to a study by dappGambl, the problem of fake Twitter followers continues to persist. For example, bots account for up to 10% of subscribers to the accounts of various cryptocurrency Influencers and projects.

Despite changes made by Twitter’s management after Elon Musk became its owner, the problem of bots has not disappeared. Among the official accounts of cryptocurrency projects, the largest number of fake followers have:

  • Shiba Inu — 10.26% or 80,000 accounts;
  • Avalanche — 8.14% or 77,000 accounts;
  • Polygon — 7.58% or 74,000 accounts.

Among crypto influencers and entrepreneurs, the highest number of bots among subscribers have:

  • Samson Mow. The crypto investor, entrepreneur, and social activist’s account has 26,000 fake followers, which is 10% of his total Twitter followers.
  • Jack Dorsey. The Twitter creator’s account has 560,000 bots among his followers, but they make up only 8.62% of his total followers on the social network.
  • Raoul Pal. The former Goldman Sachs top executive and CEO of Real Vision has 65,000 fake followers, which account for about 6.5% of his total Twitter followers.
  • Nayib Bukele. El Salvador’s president’s account has 335,000 bot followers, 6.44% of his Twitter followers.
  • Vitalik Buterin. The Ethereum co-founder was found to have about 310,000 bots among his followers, accounting for just over 6% of his total social media followers.

Other notable personalities with large numbers of fake followers include MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor (6.16%), Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (5.58%), and Tesla CEO Elon Musk (4.76%).

Recall that in 2022, the attackers stole over $200 million in cryptocurrency, using bots to promote fraudulent projects on Twitter.
