Alchemy Launches Payments and Identity Platform for AI Agents

Alchemy unveiled AgentCard, a platform integrated with Visa Intelligent Commerce that enables AI agents to make online purchases on behalf of users. The solution combines identity tools and payment infrastructure through a single API.

Alchemy, one of the largest Web3 infrastructure platforms, announced the launch of AgentCard and its integration with Visa Intelligent Commerce. The new service provides AI agents with a complete set of tools for operating in the digital economy, allowing them to pay for goods and services independently without requiring user involvement at checkout.

According to the company, developers can set up AgentCard in less than a minute. Through a single API, an agent receives a Visa payment token, a dedicated email address in the agentcard.email domain, a phone number, and a crypto wallet. This allows AI agents to register for services, receive verification codes, and interact with digital platforms much like human users.

To increase autonomy, each AI agent is assigned its own email address and phone number. Nikil Viswanathan, Co-founder & CEO of Alchemy, said that the development of agentic systems requires a fully developed economic infrastructure. Through the integration with Visa Intelligent Commerce, AI agents can use Visa tokens to pay for purchases while retaining access to existing credit lines, loyalty programs, and other card benefits without the need to create new accounts.

The platform includes spending controls such as:

  • merchant category restrictions;
  • per-transaction limits;
  • customizable budgets.

Payments are processed through tokenized payment cards by default. The service also supports crypto payments and emerging agent payment protocols when they are accepted by merchants.

Flor Ronsmans De Vry, Co-Creator of AgentCard, said that the market for specialized payment protocols designed for AI agents remains at an early stage of development. As a result, AgentCard’s routing layer automatically selects the most appropriate payment rail for each transaction and uses single-use tokens when dedicated solutions are not yet supported. As new payment standards gain adoption, the system can automatically switch to more efficient payment methods without requiring additional configuration from developers.

According to Alchemy, its infrastructure processes more than $2 trillion in financial transactions and is used by major companies including JPMorgan, Stripe, Visa, Franklin Templeton, and Nike. AI agents were integrated into Alchemy’s infrastructure in March.
