Amundi Tokenizes €22.8 Billion European Equity Index Fund

French asset manager Amundi launched a tokenized share class of one of its flagship European equity index funds on the Ethereum blockchain.
Amundi, Europe’s largest asset manager by assets under management, announced the launch of a tokenized share class of its Amundi Core STOXX Europe 600 fund, which provides broad exposure to European equities and is used by investors to build diversified portfolios. The digital shares were issued on the public Ethereum blockchain, with CACEIS serving as the project’s technology partner.
Amundi Core STOXX Europe 600 is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) designed to track the performance of the STOXX Europe 600 index, which comprises 600 major European companies. The fund’s total assets are estimated at €22.8 billion.
Tokenization involves issuing digital fund shares and recording them on a distributed ledger. The new share class is fully integrated into Amundi’s existing operational infrastructure, allowing investors to continue accessing the fund through traditional distribution channels.
Amundi identified several potential benefits of tokenization:
- Operational automation. Blockchain-based solutions can reduce manual processing in certain aspects of investment product administration.
- Faster settlement. Digital infrastructure can enable quicker settlement of fund share transactions.
- Greater transparency. Distributed ledger technology allows transaction records to be tracked.
- Improved accessibility. Tokenized instruments create additional opportunities to distribute investment products through digital platforms.
Amundi plans to gradually expand its range of tokenized funds, primarily targeting institutional investors and digital investment platforms. The company also emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance, established operational standards, and risk management practices.
According to Amundi, further advances in blockchain infrastructure and regulatory frameworks will enable tokenization across a broader range of asset classes. The expansion into index funds represents another step toward integrating traditional investment products with digital financial systems.
The press release noted that the new share class was part of a series of digital asset initiatives undertaken by Amundi. These projects involve digital asset companies, major corporations, and financial institutions. Their primary objective is to explore practical applications of blockchain technology within existing financial infrastructure.
In November 2025, Amundi tokenized shares of its Amundi Funds Cash EUR money market fund for the first time using the Ethereum blockchain. CACEIS also served as the technology partner for that project.
