The recovered energy used for Bitcoin mining will heat the city of North Vancouver in Canada.
MintGreen, a cryptocurrency mining company, has partnered with the Lonsdale Energy Corporation (LEC) to deliver heat to North Vancouver residents by the winter of 2022.
MintGreen specializes in green technologies. MintGreen’s patented Digital Boilers recycle 96% of the electricity used to mine Bitcoin as heat. This heat can then be used in the city’s hot water system, which is planned to be implemented.
Low-Carbon Heating Technology
As part of North Vancouver’s heating organization, MintGreen technology will prevent 20,000 tons of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere per MW of recovered energy.
MintGreen has enough capacity to provide heating to 155,000 people. According to the 2016 census, the population of North Vancouver is about 53,000. Thus, it creates a large margin for grid expansion along with the growth of the urban agglomeration and the heat supply to industrial plants.
MintGreen’s green innovations in BTC mining are already being applied to industry. The heat energy generated by MintGreen is used in Vancouver Island’s sea salt plant. The main production process is boiling ocean water, where the “heat waste” from mining is directed.
