Over the past month, Cardano developers (ADA) have shown the highest intensity of work on the network code compared to the teams of other crypto projects. The high activity of ADA developers is associated with the upcoming update of the main network — the Vasil hard fork.

Cardano Development Activity Increases Ahead of Vasil Hard Fork

According to Santiment, Cardano (ADA) has been the leader in development activity over the past 30 days.

Blockchain development activity is captured by counting the “number of GitHub events that the project organization generated.” This refers to the number of changes developers have made to the project code. The top five in the number of revisions to the network as of June 30, 2022 are:

  • Cardano (ADA) — 393;
  • Polkadot (DOT) — 346;
  • Kusama (KSM) — 346;
  • Flow (FLOW) — 318;
  • Filecoin (FIL) — 304.

Notably, the blockchain development activity in Ethereum, which is merging testnets with the Beacon Chain in preparation for switching to Proof-of-Stake, is still inferior to that of Cardano developers. For instance, the Ethereum network has only 285 revisions, which is 38% lower than the “Ethereum Killer” developers. Solana’s activity score is 277, 42% lower than the leader of the ranking, although the network has recently been prone to failures, and active work on its performance is being carried out. Remarkably, Cardano’s development activity is 374% higher than that of Bitcoin developers.

The other day, the main developer of ADA Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) reported that the update for the Vasil hard fork is ready, and the countdown has begun before the mainnet’s update. Cardano’s high activity is partially due to hard fork preparations.

The Vasil upgrade should help “significantly improve the performance” of the Cardano network. According to IOHK, the hard fork has the potential to provide:

  • higher network bandwidth;
  • improved scripting performance for developers;
  • lower expenses;
  • improved blockchain scalability for decentralized applications (dApps).

The Cardano core network update was supposed to take place on June 29, but the team decided to postpone the update due to the Terra crash and several software bugs in the testnet. IOHK says that if the cryptocurrency market does not show another major decline, the testnet update will be held on July 3, and the main Cardano network update at the end of July.
