Cloudflare Launches Programmable Crypto Wallets for AI Agents

Cloudflare announced the launch of a new service that will allow AI agents to pay for APIs, content, and digital services on their own, while using a persistent identity to interact with service providers.
Cloudflare, the company behind a global cloud platform for network infrastructure and security, announced Cloudflare Wallets, programmable wallets designed for the agentic AI ecosystem.
The new product will become part of Monetization Gateway, the company’s platform for monetizing websites, APIs, and applications. The service supports micropayments through the x402 protocol, which enables payments via HTTP requests. This mechanism will allow AI agents to pay for access to data, content, and other digital services without traditional registration or payment setup.
The Cloudflare Wallets infrastructure will include 2 types of wallets:
- Account Wallet is designed for account owners. It will allow users to add funds, withdraw assets, and manage spending.
- Virtual Wallet is created for individual AI agents and operates through API keys. Owners will be able to set spending limits, maximum transaction amounts, allowlists of approved recipients, and other restrictions.
Beyond payments, Cloudflare Wallets will also serve as an identity layer for AI agents. Each wallet will be able to receive a human-readable identifier within the cloudflare.pay domain, linked to its owner’s account. Using this identifier will remain optional, and service providers will decide whether to transact only with identified agents.
According to Cloudflare, bots generate a significant share of today’s web traffic. However, the lack of persistent digital identity and native payment capabilities makes it difficult for AI agents to connect to new APIs automatically and limits the development of agentic commerce. The company expects that the combination of Monetization Gateway, Cloudflare Wallets, and its identity framework will create the infrastructure for a fully automated marketplace where AI agents can independently buy and provide digital services without human involvement.
Initially, users will be able to register a Wallet Handle. Funding, withdrawals, and stablecoin functionality will roll out gradually across supported regions.
In 2025, Cloudflare, together with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, launched a unified authentication standard based on the Web Bot Auth protocol for commercial transactions carried out by AI agents. The company also introduced the NET Dollar stablecoin for instant and secure AI agent transactions.
