DTCC Officially Launches Securities Tokenization Service

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) announced the official launch of its DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS), which previously underwent testing with major financial institutions.

DTCC, one of the world’s largest post-trade infrastructure providers, launched the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) through its subsidiary, The Depository Trust Company (DTC). The platform enables the creation of tokenized equivalents of securities held in custody and allows them to be used within regulated financial infrastructure.

A total of 20 financial institutions signed agreements to join DTS, including:

  • Barclays;

  • Bank of America;

  • BNP Paribas;

  • Citadel Securities;

  • Citi;

  • Fidelity Investments;

  • JPMorgan;

  • Morgan Stanley;

  • State Street;

  • UBS, and others.

Additional participants will be onboarded in phases.

The service allows users to convert securities entitlements between traditional and tokenized forms and transfer digital assets to wallets of their choice. Tokenized instruments retain all the rights and investor protections associated with the underlying assets. DTS is designed to reduce collateral transfer times to just minutes, improve capital management efficiency, and expand access to liquidity through integration with multiple blockchain networks.

At launch, DTS is integrated with Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu-based blockchain. Additional blockchain integrations are planned for 2027. Technology companies including BitGo, Blockdaemon, Fireblocks, Ondo, Taurus, and Tradeweb are also involved in developing the infrastructure.

The service was developed in collaboration with financial industry participants who helped define the platform’s technical and operational requirements. The official launch also followed regulatory approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), allowing the tokenization of U.S. Treasury securities, shares of companies included in the Russell 1000 Index, and exchange-traded funds. In May 2026, DTCC and more than 50 financial institutions completed their first transactions in a limited production environment and conducted several blockchain transactions.

DTC CEO Frank La Salla said the service’s launch marked the completion of years of work to integrate tokenized securities into the regulated financial system. According to La Salla, the company intends to extend DTC’s existing standards for reliability, governance, and operations to digital markets, creating the conditions for large-scale institutional adoption of tokenization.

In July 2026, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that financial asset tokenization could fundamentally reshape the architecture of the global financial system.
