Cryptocurrency asset-based funds saw a record capital inflow of $44 billion in 2024. The trend continued into early 2025, with $585 million invested in crypto-based financial products within the first three days of the year.

Investors Poured $44B Into Crypto Funds in 2024

By the end of 2024, global investments in cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETF) reached a record $44.2 billion, nearly quadrupling the previous high of $10.5 billion set in 2021, according to James Butterfill, Head of Research at CoinShares.

The analyst claimed that last year, Bitcoin-based investment tools dominated the market, attracting $38 billion. Toward the end of the year, Ethereum-based products gained traction, resulting in $4.8 billion in annual inflows. Meanwhile, cryptocurrency funds based on other altcoins secured $813 million throughout 2024.

The majority of the $44.4 billion inflow was funneled into spot Bitcoin ETFs, launched in the U.S. at the beginning of 2024. Conversely, investors withdrew funds from crypto funds in countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, and Canada.

In late May 2024, U.S. regulators approved the launch of spot Ethereum ETFs, driving increased investment in the sector toward the year’s end.
