Mastercard Unveils Service to Accelerate Mobile Digital Wallet Launches

Mastercard announced a new solution designed to help banks, fintech companies, retailers, and digital platforms launch their own digital wallets with contactless payment support on iOS and Android more quickly.

The payments company Mastercard introduced Mastercard Wallet Services, a set of software tools and services designed to simplify digital wallet development. The solution helps banks, fintech companies, retailers, and digital platform operators integrate secure contactless payments into their mobile apps without building separate solutions for different operating systems.

Mastercard Wallet Services includes the Secure Element Applet and supporting tools that enable contactless payments on iOS and Android. According to the company, the solution eliminates the need for partners to maintain separate integrations or complete EMVCo certification on their own.

Android has supported a range of third party payment wallet use cases for years, while Apple’s restrictions prevented developers from delivering the same user experience across iOS and Android. After Apple began opening NFC access in several countries in 2024, banks and developers gained the ability to build their own payment services for iPhone users as well.

Mastercard expects the solution to help companies bring their digital wallets to market faster with additional features, including loyalty programs, rewards, discounts, points accrual, and other services designed to increase user engagement.

The company is already working with several banks that are developing new digital wallet features based on Mastercard Wallet Services. The first commercial launches in selected countries are expected before the end of 2026.

Mastercard Wallet Services is now available in all regions where Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) tokenization technology operates. On iOS devices, contactless payment support is rolling out in markets where Apple has already opened NFC access, including the U.S., the U.K., and most European countries.

Mastercard continued to expand its portfolio of digital payment solutions. In 2023, the company launched the Multi-Token Network (MTN) to test tokenized bank deposits, stablecoins, and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Later, in 2025, Mastercard announced a full scale platform for stablecoin transactions. In 2026, the company enabled direct cryptocurrency purchases and integrated regulated stablecoins into its settlement infrastructure.
