The editors of Cryptonews.net released their annual ranking of the most popular people in the crypto industry’s media space. The list of the top 54 crypto people of 2023 was headed by Sam Bankman-Fried, Changpeng Zhao, and Elon Musk.
The Cryptonews.net team analyzed more than 550,000 news related to the crypto industry to assess the number of mentions of individuals and their media coverage. Based on the data obtained, the ranking of the top 54 crypto personalities of 2023 was compiled.
The top three leaders remained unchanged from 2022. The most popular media personality of the crypto industry, despite the trials in the U.S. and conviction on eight counts of criminal charges, remained ex-CEO of the bankrupt crypto exchange FTX and Co-Founder of Alameda Research Sam Bankman-Fried. He was mentioned in the media over 8,800 times during 2023.
The second place was retained by Changpeng Zhao, with 7,376 mentions, who also faced criminal charges from U. S. regulators in 2023 and was forced to resign as CEO of Binance. The third place is occupied by the invariable opinion leader, crypto enthusiast, billionaire, and new owner of Twitter, now known as X, Elon Musk. His statements were quoted in the media about 6,000 times during the year.
The top 10 also included:
- Gary Gensler, Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). During the year, he rose in the ranking by five positions due to the active attacks of the agency he heads on crypto companies in the United States and criticism on this occasion from the crypto community and authorities.
- Justin Sun, Founder of the Tron Foundation. Compared to 2022, he rose in the ranking by 16 positions.
- Vitalik Buterin, Co-Founder of the Ethereum network. Despite the success Ethereum achieved in 2023, Vitalik lost two points in the ranking over the year, dropping to sixth position.
- Richard Teng, the new CEO of Binance. He became the only newcomer in the top 10 thanks to his new position. The media mentioned his name more than 3,000 times during the year. CP Media released an exclusive interview with him.
- David Schwartz, Ripple’s CTO and Architect of XRP Ledger. His ranking rose 11 points due to the company’s successes during the year and developments in its lawsuit against the SEC.
- Do Kwon, ex-CEO of Terraform Labs. The entrepreneur’s ranking dropped four positions over the year, but the hype over his arrest in Montenegro and further extradition secured his ninth position.
- Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase. He retained the tenth position in the ranking of the most popular crypto people.
In addition to Richard Teng, newcomers to the ranking in 2023 include:
- Lead Developer of Shiba Inu, known by the pseudonym Shytoshi Kusama;
- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman;
- Anonymous Researcher and Whistleblower of scam projects, known by the pseudonym ZachXBT;
- Journalist Colin Wu;
- Popular Television Personality Jim Cramer;
