Western Union Files Trademark WUUSD for Crypto Services

Western Union filed a trademark application to offer a wide range of digital asset-related services in the United States.

Western Union submitted a request to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register the trademark WUUSD, confirming its intention to enter the U.S. cryptocurrency services market.

According to the filing, the WUUSD designation is intended for use in fields related to digital assets and financial technologies. The application covers areas such as:

  • payment processing using stablecoins;
  • crypto exchange and trading;
  • digital brokerage and lending services.

The filing also highlights plans to develop software for conducting, verifying, and managing cryptocurrency transactions, signaling the company’s intention to move beyond traditional money transfers and build a full-fledged ecosystem of digital asset services.

Just a few days ago, Western Union announced plans to launch the Digital Asset Network platform and officially unveiled the US Dollar Payment Token (USDPT), a stablecoin set to debut in H1 2026.
