Digital Product Identification Platform Goes Live in the EU on Hedera

TrackTrace’s Digital Product Passport platform was integrated with Merck’s M-Trust physical authentication technology. The solution is designed to help manufacturers and suppliers comply with new European Union requirements for supply chain transparency.
Swiss Web3 software developer The Hashgraph Group (THG) and science and technology company Merck unveiled a digital product identification solution built on the Hedera blockchain network. The new platform combines the TrackTrace Digital Product Passport (DPP) system with M-Trust, Merck’s physical product authentication technology.
The solution will enable companies to simultaneously verify product origin, authenticity, quality, and movement across the supply chain, creating a digital product passport backed by verifiable data. Hedera will serve as the system’s single source of truth.
Under the new framework, the TrackTrace DPP platform will generate immutable digital records covering a product’s origin and lifecycle, while M-Trust will provide physical product authentication through invisible security markers embedded directly into products and packaging. Once scanned with a dedicated device, authentication data will be recorded on the blockchain and added to the product’s digital passport, creating a verifiable chain of evidence for every stage of the supply chain.
TrackTrace also supports the collection of product quality data, raw material origin information, carbon emissions data, and responsible sourcing records. Each asset or process will be assigned a decentralized identifier that stores all related information. This approach will allow independent auditors to verify records without relying on a centralized intermediary.
The solution is designed for industries where product provenance requirements are particularly stringent, including food production, pharmaceuticals, electronics manufacturing, luxury goods, and industrial components. According to Stefan Deiss, CEO and Co-Founder of The Hashgraph Group, the platform is intended to help businesses prepare for upcoming EU requirements related to Digital Product Passports and supply chain traceability.
The EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) calls for the introduction of Digital Product Passports with QR codes for most physical goods sold on the EU market by 2030. At the same time, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires importers of commodities such as cocoa, coffee, and timber to provide verified farm-level traceability data on the origin of raw materials.
Thomas Endress, Executive Director and Head of M-Trust within Merck’s Group Science & Technology Office, said demand for such solutions is increasing amid rising fraud risks across global supply chains. According to Endress, the cocoa market saw a growing number of cases involving falsified certificates of origin and forged documentation related to EUDR compliance in 2026.
In addition to TrackTrace, The Hashgraph Group’s Hedera-based ecosystem includes:
- the IDTrust digital identity platform;
- the EcoGuard carbon tracking platform;
- BrandBoost, a SaaS platform for creating tokenized loyalty programs.
The company also launched a private blockchain network for enterprise clients, enabling them to build fully compliant DLT-based solutions. Meanwhile, the Hedera network is widely used for stablecoin issuance, cross-border payments, and micropayments.
