The administrative court in Colombia held a hearing on a traffic dispute in the virtual Metaverse space.

Colombian Court Held Hearing in Metaverse

Colombia’s Magdalena Administrative Court held the first virtual session in the Metaverse. This is reported by Reuters.

All participants in the proceedings appeared as avatars in the virtual courtroom. The hearing in the case brought by the regional transport union against the police lasted two hours. The judge didn’t give a final verdict, so the case will be retried later.

According to Judge Maria Quinones Triana, Metaverse technologies provided a “live presence” for all involved in the process. The judge noted that “it felt more real than a video call.” She described the immersive courtroom experience as “amazing” and expressed a willingness to participate in similar trials in the future. “This is an academic experiment, and [my court] can continue to do things in the Metaverse,” the judge added.

Recall that Metaverse helped residents of Seoul gain access to some municipal services, and a large-scale survey by CoinWire showed that Metaverse could change social contacts globally.
