According to a report by Bitfinex, the total number of crypto users globally grew at an average rate of 2.8% per month in 2023. As of December 1, the number of digital asset owners reached 575 million.
At the beginning of this year, the global number of crypto users was 432 million. The figure increased by 33% in almost a year, indicating the growing popularity and global adoption rate of cryptocurrencies.
Comparing the current trends in the crypto market with the peak user activity during the bull market in 2021, Bitfinex analysts predicted that the number of crypto users in 2024 will grow to 950 million. They believe that next year’s average monthly growth rate could potentially increase to 3.8-4.4%, which could double the current number of crypto owners.
The analysts named the approval of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, which will increase investment activity in the market, as the main catalyst that can boost user interest in crypto next year.
Not all analysts are so optimistic about the crypto market. According to Statista, the global number of digital asset owners may reach 1 billion not earlier than 2028. However, Statista analysts agree with the industry’s active dynamics in the next year, predicting more than 250 million new crypto users in 2024.
