A new investment fund, Unbound, offers the opportunity to become a citizen of the European Union through the Golden Visa program in Portugal. A minimum of €500,000 (~$542,000) must be invested in Bitcoin via the fund to obtain citizenship.
Alessandro Palombo, Co-Founder and CEO of a new investment fund Unbound, revealed that investors will be able to become European Union citizens by investing in Bitcoin through the fund.
According to the official website, the fund is the first Web3 organization to access Portugal’s Golden Visa program, allowing non-EU nationals to gain citizenship within five years. Investors who invested more than €500,000 (~$542,000) in BTC through the Unbound fund will qualify for the program.
The fund invests in European blockchain companies that hold BTC in their accounts or use the asset as collateral. In the future, Unbound also plans to invest in BlackRock’s exchange-traded funds (ETF). Palombo says Bitcoin can be a tool for freedom of movement. He also said that the fund already onboarded several major clients and is currently negotiating cooperation with several partners.
It’s possible to obtain citizenship through BTC investments in El Salvador, and the Central African Republic (CAR) authorities offer citizenship for investments in the national cryptocurrency Sango Coin.
