Meta unveiled a new tool for Instagram that will allow users to mint and sell digital collectibles as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) directly from the platform.

Instagram to Mint and Sell NFTs

During Creator Week 2022, Meta (ex-Facebook) revealed a new tool for minting and selling NFTs on and off Instagram.

The developers claim that an “end-to-end toolkit” for creating, buying, and selling NFTs directly from Instagram’s interface will soon be available to everyone. At this stage, the tool is being tested with the participation of “a small group of creators” from the United States.

Polygon was chosen to mint NFTs via Instagram. But in the future, the team plans to add the ability to create non-fungible tokens on the social network and other blockchains.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the integration of non-fungible tokens on Instagram in March this year. So, NFTs became possible to be displayed on the social network just a few months later.

Meta developers stressed that as part of the new feature, there’ll be several updates to Instagram, including:

  • the demonstration of video-based digital collectibles;
  • the Solana blockchain support;
  • the Phantom wallet integration;
  • automated migration of metadata about NFT collections from OpenSea.

The developers also revealed new tools to be added for users who want to support NFT artists. For example, Instagram will include a feature to encourage authors, allowing users to express their admiration for art with digital gifts.

Last week, Twitter announced the testing of a new function called NFT Tweet Tile, which will make it possible to buy or sell NFTs via the social platform.
