Mastercard Debit Card by MetaMask Now Available in U.S.

MetaMask Card is now available to users in the United States. Residents of New York and 49 other states also gained access to the premium metal version, MetaMask Metal Card.

Consensys, the developer of non-custodial crypto wallet MetaMask, announced the completion of a two-year pilot program and the official launch of MetaMask Card in the U.S. The product is available in 49 states, including New York, where it was previously unavailable due to regulatory restrictions.

The card is issued by Cross River Bank, with Baanx as the project’s technology partner. Users can access the card through Mastercard Digital First technology. The card is virtual and supports Apple Pay and Google Pay. The premium physical version, MetaMask Metal Card, which was introduced in 2025, is also available.

MetaMask Card doesn’t require preloading a custodial account on an exchange and allows users to spend digital assets directly from their MetaMask wallet via Mastercard infrastructure. Users retain control over their funds until the payment is made, with conversion occurring at the moment of the transaction. Enrollment in the program requires identity verification and compliance checks in accordance with U.S. financial regulations.

The card supports contactless payments and includes standard Mastercard security features, such as Zero Liability, ID Theft Protection, and Price Protection. MetaMask Card also offers users 1–3% cashback in MUSD stablecoins. Moreover, cardholders can earn yields on unused balances by deploying tokens through wallet-integrated DeFi protocols.

Gal Eldar, Product Lead at MetaMask, noted that entering the U.S. market is part of the company’s strategy to integrate on-chain assets into traditional financial infrastructure and expand the use of crypto in everyday transactions. Sherri Haymond, Global Head of Digital Commercialization at Mastercard, emphasized that the partnership aims to strengthen the connection between decentralized and everyday finance.

MetaMask Card was initially launched in 2024, but access was limited to a small number of users in the EU and the U.K. The MetaMask crypto debit card is now also available in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, and Switzerland.
