Over two-thirds of American parents with an understanding of cryptocurrencies want their children to learn about them as part of the school curriculum.
The educational platform Study.com conducted a survey and found that 64% of American parents would like to see mandatory crypto education in schools. In their opinion, cryptocurrencies should be included in the general school curriculum for students to “learn about the future of our economy.”
Among college graduates, 67% of respondents shared the same opinion. A total of 884 parents and 210 college graduates took part in the survey. All respondents had a basic understanding of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and the metaverse.
Nearly 40% of those surveyed expressed the opinion that blockchain technology, the metaverse, and non-fungible tokens should also be taught as part of the school curriculum.
Three-quarters of respondents with experience investing in crypto-assets are involved in crypto education on their own. Costs of additional cryptocurrency education for children account for an average of $766 among parents. University students spend about $1,086 on their own crypto education.
Notably, the major universities in the U.S. have already launched their own cryptocurrency and blockchain education programs. These include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oxford University, and Harvard University. The trend is worldwide, both at the corporate and government levels. For example, Binance launched a large-scale educational program in Latin America. In Japan, a new educational course was announced at the University of Tokyo, which will take place in a virtual space.
