All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced the launch of its NFT marketplace, part of a larger plan to integrate the company into the Web3 space.
All Nippon Airways, Japan’s largest airline, launched an aeronautical-themed NFT marketplace on May 30. It was reported by Impress Watch. The ANA GranWhale NFT MarketPlace platform was developed with the participation of ANA Neo, a subsidiary of the airline.
The platform already presents the first NFT collection — a series of digitized images by famous aerial photographer Luke Ozawa. The tokens will be sold for 100,000 yen (~$715) each. One of the NFTs will contain rights to the positive film with the original photos. It’ll be sold at auction.
The second collection will be presented on June 7. It’ll be based on the first Boeing 787 that was used by ANA. A total of 1,574 tokens will be introduced, including 787 photos of the aircraft and the same number of its 3D models.
ANA representatives plan to expand the line of NFT products in the future, increasing the value of the customer experience with their help. GranWhale was originally developed by ANA Neo as a tourist Metaverse platform. However, during the course of the project, which began in August 2022, the concept changed.
All Nippon Airways generated $12.2 billion in revenue during the last fiscal year. According to Mitsuo Tomita, the company’s President, they still plan to use Metaverse technologies in the future and generally master the field of Web3.
The airline industry is closely tied to the field of blockchain technology in a variety of ways. For example, in 2022, several large corporations launched Avelia, a blockchain platform for trading Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits. And air charter booking service Mirai Flights began accepting payment for its services in cryptocurrencies through a partnership with CoinsPaid.
