Western Union Launched a Crypto Wallet and Crypto Card for the USDPT Stablecoin

Western Union introduced a Visa-based crypto wallet and crypto card that let users hold, transfer, and spend the USDPT stablecoin worldwide.
Western Union, one of the world’s largest money transfer companies, announced the launch of Stablecard in partnership with infrastructure provider Rain. The product combines a digital crypto wallet with a crypto card running on Visa’s payment network and supports the U.S. dollar-backed USDPT stablecoin.
The crypto wallet lets users receive Western Union cross-border transfers directly in USDPT, hold digital assets, send funds to compatible crypto wallets and exchanges, and use the balance immediately through the linked card. Users can add the crypto card to Apple Pay and Google Pay, use it anywhere Visa is accepted, and withdraw cash from ATMs.
Rain serves as the project’s infrastructure partner and powers both the crypto wallet and the crypto card. Its technology lets customers use stablecoins without interacting directly with a blockchain network. Rain is a member of the Visa and Mastercard payment systems, and cards issued through its infrastructure are accepted at more than 175 million merchant locations worldwide.
Western Union launched the USDPT stablecoin in May 2026. Anchorage Digital Bank serves as the issuer. The stablecoin is fully backed by U.S. dollar reserves and was issued on the Solana blockchain.
Stablecard launched in 37 countries, primarily in markets with volatile local currencies and strong demand for U.S. dollar stablecoins. Western Union plans to expand the service to more than 60 markets by the end of 2026.
Western Union Chief Executive Officer Devin McGranahan said the new product combines a U.S. dollar-backed digital asset, the company’s global network, and Visa’s payment infrastructure. It gives users a way to keep savings in digital dollars, transfer funds, and pay for purchases worldwide.
In late 2025, Western Union filed a trademark application covering a broad range of digital asset services in the U.S. The company also entered into strategic partnerships with Crossmint, one of the largest Web3 infrastructure providers, and crypto exchange Bybit.
