Regulators in Spain and the U.K. are exploring options to control and limit cryptocurrency advertising.

European Countries Are Tightening Crypto Ad Regulation

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the U.K. is considering restrictions on crypto advertising as part of its efforts to combat “misleading advertising,” The Financial Times reports. The agency is awaiting approval from HM Treasury. Spain’s case inspired British regulators. A little earlier, the Spanish National Securities Market Commission had already got an extension of powers to control crypto advertising. Starting in March 2022, ads focusing on cryptocurrencies will require prior notification to the regulator. Influencers and media will also have to notify the regulator when they receive payments in crypto for providing services.
