The investment in blockchain comes as part of the Strategic Technology Focus Initiative (STRATFI) and will address supply chain management for the U.S. Air Force.

Pentagon Invests in Blockchain

Blockchain provider SIMBA Chain received a $30 million STRATFI funding from the United States Air Force. The investment will be used to develop a blockchain app for supply chain management. In addition to the Air Force, related technical solutions are planned for the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army and the Defense Logistics Agency, and the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research & Engineering.

The new project “will pave the way to more efficient and comprehensive management of assets within the Department of Defense supply chain,” said Stacy Betlej-Amodeo, VP of Government Operations at SIMBA Chain.

The Pentagon previously engaged SIMBA Chain to develop blockchain solutions, including the Digital Blockchain Budgeting Accountability and Tracking (DiBaT) program for improved accounting, as well as a supply chain tracking system for components critical to the airline industry.

The current initiative will accelerate the development of the blockchain platform SIMBA Blocks, which will contribute to the U.S. Air Force’s “strategic mission.” The STRATFI program is aimed at identifying and promoting technologies with the potential to ensure the future supremacy of the U.S. Air Force.

Recall that U.S. authorities are actively involved in digital asset regulation. So the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) of the White House involved the public in the process of choosing priority areas for research in the field of digital assets.
