Stripe Launches Subscription Payments in Stablecoins

Stripe announced the launch of a new feature that enables customers to pay for subscriptions to various services using stablecoins. The initiative will allow businesses to automate recurring crypto payments and simplify their integration with existing solutions.

Stripe, the global online payment processing platform, is expanding its crypto capabilities by adding support for recurring payments in stablecoins. The new tool enables companies to automatically process regular crypto transactions, receiving digital assets directly from customers’ wallets with automatic conversion to fiat. The feature also allows businesses to manage all subscriptions in a single Stripe dashboard and integrate them with Optimized Checkout Suite and Stripe Billing.

The solution primarily targets subscription-based businesses. Currently, around 30% of Stripe’s clients rely on this business model, including many leading AI product developers.

At the core of Stripe’s solution is a new smart contract that removes one of the main limitations of blockchain payments — the need for manual confirmation of each transaction. Now users can save a wallet as a payment method and authorize it for recurring charges, just like a bank card. The system supports over 400 wallets.

Initially, the feature will be available in a closed early-access mode for U.S. companies, supporting USDC payments on the Base and Polygon networks.

Stripe continues to actively test new stablecoin-based products. Earlier, the company announced a U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin payment service, as well as an institutional-grade solution for issuing custom stablecoins.
