A company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thumbay Group, plans to create the first-ever virtual hospital and introduce AI, AR and VR technologies into its physical hospitals.
The plans to create a virtual hospital in the UAE were announced by the founder of Thumbay Group, Dr. Thumbay Moideen. This is reported in the local media, referring to the businessman’s speech at the Insurance Meet 2022 on June 30.
Here’s what Dr. Thumbay Moideen said about the project:
- Patients in the metaverse will be able to visit doctors for consultations using avatars.
- All doctors will receive special training before working fully with patients in the virtual space.
- Fees for consultations will not differ from similar services in the company’s physical clinics.
- The project is scheduled for launch in October 2022.
Thumbay Group is a large international conglomerate whose activities include various areas of the medical business. For example, the virtual hospital intends to contribute to the development of medical tourism in the region. Considering this, the company introduces AR and VR technologies to create an opportunity for paralyzed patients or those undergoing long-term treatment to stay in touch with their relatives. Virtual and augmented reality headsets will help patients “go home,” which should have a positive effect on their psychological state and speed up their recovery.
Thumbay Group also plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its network of medical facilities. Thanks to this, the system will automatically recognize a patient’s identity by their license plate number or appearance. For instance, it will speed up the reception of visitors at the reception desk, and the pharmacist will automatically receive information about what medications a patient has been prescribed. Projects of such systems already exist, with users’ personal data stored in blockchain networks. We have already written more about blockchain in medical technology.
Since February 2022, the UAE authorities have been actively working to transform Dubai into one of the largest blockchain technology centers. According to analysts, the UAE is also developing projects in the metaverse sector that could reach $5 trillion in total revenue by 2030.
