Apple’s recent job listings give reason to believe that the corporation is preparing not only to release a mixed reality (MR) headset, but to create a Metaverse for it.
Apple Inc. is actively working on a MR headset. Although there’s not much information about the functionality of the device, it was reported that the company plans to create its own Metaverse for the new headset. Such an assumption was made by Bloomberg, referring to the recently opened vacancies.
So, Apple’s vacancies include a software producer with experience in 3D graphics. The main duties will include “the creation of digital content for AR and VR environments.” Apple is also looking for engineers to work on development tools “geared toward virtual and augmented reality.”
These positions could indicate that the MR device will also contain 3D content, most likely the Metaverse.
There’s no official confirmation of this. All that is known about Apple’s MR headset is that the device will be on sale by next year, and its price will be about $3,000. As for the technical equipment, the headset will be equipped with an M2 processor, about ten cameras and the highest-resolution display.
It’s worth noting that Apple representatives have repeatedly opposed using the term “Metaverse.” Greg Joswiak, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, previously said that the concept of the Metaverse was greatly overestimated, and the company didn’t plan to focus on Metaverses. According to him, most people don’t understand it and would prefer a lighter approach, i.e., augmented reality.
