The most popular cryptocurrency for donations was ETH. 

The Giving Block platform provided data on crypto philanthropy in a large report. Total cryptocurrency donations in 2021 were approximately $69.6 million, an increase of 1.558% over the year before. The average charitable donation was also up 236% from the previous year and totaled $10.455. By comparison, the average cash donation in the US in 2021 was $128.

The most popular cryptocurrency for charity was Ethereum — it accounted for 42% of all contributions. The volumes of donations in the five most popular cryptocurrencies are as follows: 

  • Ethereum — $30.8 million;
  • Bitcoin — $25.9 million;
  • USD Coin — $4.7 million;
  • Dai — $2.5 million;
  • Flow — $1.4 million.

Contributions in BTC, ETH and USDC totaled about 85% of all donations. Overall, people have used more than 70 cryptocurrencies for charity. By the end of 2021, more than 1.000 organizations were accepting crypto contributions, and about 295 million users from all over the world donated to them.
