Demand for trademarks for cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and metaverses in 2022 surpassed the figures recorded last year.
According to Michael Kondoudis, Trademark and Patent Attorney, as of August 31, individuals and businesses had filed more than 3,600 trademark applications for cryptocurrencies and crypto-related services with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, up from 3,516 for the full year 2021.
The number of applications for NFT products increased even more significantly, with over 5,800 in 2022, compared to 2,087 in 2021. Registered trademarks in the metaverse sector exceeded 4,150 by the end of August, though the total number was 1,866 in 2021.
Based on the dynamics presented by the attorney, business interest in the Web 3.0 sector peaked in March 2022, when the maximum number of applications was registered. Demand for new trademark registrations by the end of the summer dropped the least among the metaverse projects.
According to recent studies, the NFT sector growth is directly dependent on the popularity of the metaverse. In March 2021, the global awareness was over 70%.
