Visa and Dunamu to Develop Stablecoin-Based Cross-Border Payment Services

South Korean FinTech company Dunamu entered into a strategic partnership with Visa to develop stablecoin- and artificial intelligence (AI)-based payment and financial services.

Dunamu, the operator of cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, and global payments company Visa agreed to collaborate on payments, international money transfers, and settlement infrastructure using stablecoins. The partners also plan to jointly develop solutions at the intersection of AI and digital assets, including infrastructure for agentic commerce.

The companies presented a partnership roadmap focused in part on integrating Dunamu’s digital asset infrastructure with Visa’s global payment network. They plan to explore new services for stablecoin-based payments and international money transfers, as well as use cases for stablecoins in settlement.

As part of the partnership, the companies plan to explore the integration of stablecoins with global financial and payment infrastructure. This includes services connecting digital assets with payments in key international markets, as well as new mechanisms for cross-border transfers, payments, and settlements.

Another area of cooperation will focus on potential use cases for OUSD, a stablecoin introduced by Open Standard that became the first supported asset on the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP). Dunamu and Visa plan to explore business models that could expand the asset’s practical use cases following its full launch.

The joint projects will be implemented in stages, taking into account the legal and regulatory requirements of the relevant markets. The companies identified stability, transparency, system interoperability, and regulatory compliance as the core principles of the partnership.

Dunamu and Visa also plan to combine stablecoin-based payment and settlement infrastructure with AI technologies. Agentic commerce will be one of the key use cases. The companies will explore the technologies and infrastructure required for AI payments, as well as the potential architecture of the related ecosystem. The partners expect to jointly identify new services and commercial models.

Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok described the growing adoption of AI, stablecoins, and tokenization as one of the key factors transforming finance and commerce. He said the partnership with Visa should help connect digital asset infrastructure with the traditional financial system and create new cross-border financial products for users.

Visa, meanwhile, continues to expand its stablecoin capabilities. Dunamu is in talks with Samsung SDS on jointly developing infrastructure for stablecoins, digital assets, and AI payments.
