Sharjah, with the city center of the same name, will be available in the metaverse. The project aims to contribute to the development of the tourism industry in the region.
Multiverse Labs, in partnership with the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), announced the launch of Sharjahverse, the world’s first government-backed metaverse city.
Sharjahverse covers 2,590 square kilometers of the emirate of Sharjah, located in the Persian Gulf, with its city center considered the cultural capital of the United Arab Emirates. The initiative intends to stimulate the region’s tourism development and create additional jobs for local professionals.
The metaverse is built on Multiverse Labs technologies using generative AI, and the latest NVIDIA RTX technology provides a high level of realism. Anyone can test Sharjahverse at GITEX 2022, the 42nd international exhibition of information technology in the Gulf region, which takes place in Dubai from October 10 to 14, 2022.
His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the SCTDA, believes tourism development in the UAE requires a new way of thinking. He says virtual tourism in Sharjahverse will help the region thrive and promote Sharjah “as a destination of excellence.”
The creation of Sharjahverse is another step of the United Arab Emirates towards conquering the Web3 economy. For example, a recent study proved that the Web3 sector in the UAE already has almost 1,500 active projects. The most active blockchain technology development is in Dubai, where the government creates a favorable environment for crypto businesses. The Dubai government is preparing to introduce some of its departments to Dubai Metaverse and turn the city into one of the largest blockchain hubs. The Dubai Metaverse Strategy will create over 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030.
