Only one in 10 players are interested in earning in games, and about 40% do not mind combining work with pleasure, that is, to play and earn.

Half of Gamers Are More Interested in "Playing" Than "Earning"

About 49% of players are interested in just playing without earning. These are the results of a large-scale study conducted by the company YouGov commissioned by Globant. The opportunity to earn in games attracts only 11% of respondents, the rest do not mind combining playing the game and making money.

Over half of the players are confident that the metaverse will change the video game industry forever, but 25% of them believe that it will be a negative change. Among respondents, 38% expressed the opinion that it will take more than five years for the metaverse to finally become a reality.

Of those surveyed, 34% want to use cryptocurrencies in metaverses, with only 16% having experience acquiring NFTs. Approximately 40% associate the metaverse with blockchain technology, but there was only one blockchain project on the list of the most recognizable brands in the metaverse sector:

  • Meta — 73%;
  • Fortnite Epic Games — 27%;
  • Roblox — 21%;
  • The Sandbox —15%;
  • Pokemon Go Niantic — 10%.

The study polled 1,000 adults. PC, console and mobile gamers were equally represented. The survey took place in June 2022.

According to the joint research of DappRadar and Blockchain Gaming Alliance (BGA), in March 2022, the number of unique active wallets (UAW) in the P2E sector exceeded 1.22 million. Additionally, the number of filed applications for trademarks related to the metaverse and virtual world has grown by 51% in the first five months of 2022 compared to last year.
