One of the most popular Move-to-Earn projects was subjected to a DDoS attack, causing its servers to fail.

Servers of M2E Project STEPN Crashed Due to Attack

The servers of crypto project STEPN (GMT) suffered a massive DDoS attack, resulting in a shutdown for technical work. The announcement appeared on the project’s Twitter account. STEPN was supposed to restore the server’s functionality within 1 to 12 hours, but by the time of writing the news, it was almost a day, and the consequences were still not eliminated.

The day before the attack, the STEPN team presented a new anti-fraud algorithm — Stepn’s Model for Anti-Cheating (SMAC). The system is based on machine learning and aims to eliminate bots and cheaters. Shortly after the update, a massive DDoS attack began, but the connection between these events is still a rumor.

Interestingly, the GMT native token quotes almost ignored this situation. As of June 6 at 16:00 (GMT+3), the price of GMT has increased by 7.5% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. At the same time, the current value is only 25% of the maximum, which was recorded in late April.

STEPN is one of the leaders in the Move-to-Earn segment, whose popularity has grown significantly in Spring 2022. The research by FitRated showed that cryptocurrency is one of the best motivators for exercise, and walking is the most popular physical activity among M2E users.
